Cranberry pills for UTI in a dog?

My 5 year old dingo has recurring urinary tract infections every year around this time. I check her urine by-weekly and catch the infections as soon as her urine looks clouded. She is an Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia survivor. Her Vet told me that some owners with dogs suffering chronic UTI’s experience a decreased frequency of infection when their dogs are given cranberry tablets. She (Dr. Jennifer Bell, DVM) always encourages me to research on my own and share our acquired knowledge to pursue the best possible treatments and preventative measures. The IMHA aside, has anyone had a dog with chronic UTI’s, have you used pharmaceutical grade cranberry tablets, and what was your results? My Ding is currently on a course of cephalaxin. I would like to hear from those who have had a dog with chronic UTI’s and how cranberry tabs worked for you as a preventative measure.

Well, I have never used them for my dog but I am diabetic and have this problem myself and they do help so if they help a human I think it should at least be worth a try with your dingo. I think you are a pretty cool person to take such wonderful care of a dog that has such a serious problem. Your dog is very lucky to have you. I can tell you really love her. Good luck.

I don’t know about in dogs, but in people the pills don’t seem to be as effective as the juice. It would certainly be worth a try.
